چکیده

A hydrophilic matrix tablet is the simplest and most cost-effective method of fabricating an extended release (ER) solid oral dosage form. The majority of commercially available matrix formulations are in the form of tablets, and their method of manufacture is similar to conventional tablet formulations: granulation, blending, compression and coating. In its simplest form, a typical ER matrix formulation consists of a drug, one or more water-swellable hydrophilic polymers, excipients such as fillers or binders, a flow aid (glidant) and a lubricant. Other functional ingredients, such as buffering agents, stabilizers, solubilizers and surfactants, may also be included to improve or optimize the release and/or stability performance of the formulation system. Various water-soluble or water-swellable polymers with high molecular weight have been used in hydrophilic matrices, such as hypromellose (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)), hydroxypropylcellulose (HPC) and polyethylene oxide (PEO). HPMC is identified as the most popular polymer in matrix applications because of a number of key features and advantages: 1–5

The Release Behavior and Kinetic Evaluation of Diltiazem HCl from Various Hydrophilic and Plastic Based Matrices

In this study, the effects of various hydrophilic (HPMC and Carbopol 971) and plastic (Ethylcellulose and Eudragit RL100) polymers on the release profile of diltiazem HCl from matrix tablets were evaluated in-vitro. For this purpose, tablets containing 60 mg of diltiazem HCl along with various amounts of the aforementioned polymers were prepared using the wet granulation technique. Tablets prep...

Effect of Particle Size, Compaction Force and Presence of Aerosil 200 on the Properties of Matrices Prepared from Physical Mixture of Propranolol Hydrochloride and Eudragit RS or RL

Objective Eudragits are widely used polymers in the production of oral sustained release dosage forms. The application of these polymers in the production of inert insoluble matrices has been investigated. However the effect of particle size, compaction force and presence of Aerosil 200 as a glidant on the properties of Eudragit RS and RL matrices prepared by direct compression of their physic...

An Investigation into the Effect of Carbopols on the Release of Propranolol HCl from Tablet Matrices

In this study, attempts were made to evaluate the effect of various acrylic acid based Carbopols on the release profile of a beta-adrenoreceptor blocking drug, propranolol HCl, from matrix-type tablets invitro. For this purpose, tablets containing 160 mg of propranolol HCl along with various amounts of Carbopols 934 (C934), 971 (C971), 974 (C974) and Pemulen (Pem) were prepared using the wet gr...

The Effects of Lactose, Microcrystalline Cellulose and Dicalcium Phosphate on Swelling and Erosion of Compressed HPMC Matrix Tablets: Texture Analyzer

This paper reviews the use of texture analysis in studying the performance of hydrophilic matrices of highly soluble drugs and different types of excipients (i.e. water-soluble, water-insoluble and swellable, and water insoluble and non-swellable). Tablets were prepared by direct compression, and their swelling and erosion in presence of these different excipients were assessed with the help of...
